What is vitamin K?

Vitamin K is a group of fat soluble compounds mainly found in green vegetables.

Why do we need vitamin K?

Vitamin K contributes to many bodily functions, including:

Blood clotting

Vitamin K is required for the synthesis of proteins involved in blood clotting.

Bone metabolism

Vitamin K is involved in the formation of proteins found in bones and cartilage.

Recommended Daily Allowance for a 44-year-old male moderately active, weighting 70 kg and 175 cm tall is 120 µg (1).

What are the risks of too much vitamin K?

According to the FNB (Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine), no adverse effects associated with vitamin K consumption from food or supplements have been reported (2).
